more scrub bashing at wilson’s prom

Another adventure off the beaten track in the wilds of Wilson’s Promontory. This time my carrier came prepared, and there were a lot less complaints about the scrub. Although there was some talk of leeches – they didn’t seem to bother me, I’m sure they can’t have been that bad.

We made it to the summit of Mount Latrobe though.

New bike helmet was purchased on Saturday. Fear it’s shinyness, and awesome ability to protect my head. New helmet was made necessary as the old one suddenly didn’t fit so well. Not well at all. I haven’t yet weighed the cut off dreads, but I’m pretty sure they tip the scales at a decent amount. It’s nice to be able to move my head around again.

And I met a sheep when I went out cycling on the weekend. I found her when cycling in random places a few years ago, and then somehow ended up in the same place again, so I thought I’d go and say hello. She wasn’t looking particularly well. Perhaps she was just fat and in need of a shear, but for a sheep doing nothing on a cold day, she was breathing rather heavily.

back again

26.8.2006

So, the servers my site lives on went a bit kerfluey. Back in action now though. Apparently.

Highlights of the past week: curry night, aid-climbing the chinup bar in our house, and dreadlock removal.

Lowlights: lack of sleep, supervisor failing to materialise.

I present you with the best birthday cake I have seen in some time – created by us for one of our friends 30th birthday. It was most delicious.

(For infidels out there, it’s Bender from Futurama)

doctor who scarf

14.8.2006

The tassels were finally added, my Doctor Who scarf is complete. Just as it decides to turn into Spring, by-passing this whole cold wet snowy Winter stuff entirely. But at least I have a fancy scarf to wear.

penguin smuggling

13.8.2006

Saturday’s ride brought penguins and apple crumble. Both of those actually came after the ride. Over six hours we covered 107 km, and 50+ checkpoints (I can’t be bothered recounting how many we actually got to) all around Phillip Island. Then cheese and vegie burger toasties, with tomato sauce of course, and apple crumble with custard. Then penguins. I recommend the penguin parade at Phillip Island if you’re into visiting over-priced tourist traps with coach loads of internationals, and sitting on concrete bleachers to view a floodlit beach. Or if you’ve found that standard stores just don’t stock enough toy penguins to satisfy you.

They were cute though, I’ll give them that. When watching them heading to their burrows from the boardwalk afterwards, one 10 year old girl proclaimed “It’s so cute, awwwwwww [noise becoming increasingly high pitched to the point where I was worried she might explode if the penguin did anything cuter]“.

There was no penguin under the car when we got out though.

she knits dead people

10.8.2006

My favourite discovery of the day: a knitted version of the cast of Dawn of the Dead. I think the only worthwhile knitting project to follow up my Doctor Who scarf would logically have to be a knitted swarm of zombies.
